Author Biographies

  • Saadet Kök Ayaz, Beykent University

    SAADET KÖK AYAZ is an architect and academic whose work focuses on architectural design and theory. She completed her undergraduate studies in Architecture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (2008–2012), followed by her Master’s degree in Architectural Design at Istanbul Technical University (2013–2016). She received her PhD in Architectural Design from Istanbul Technical University in 2025 with her dissertation titled “Process- and Relational-Oriented Aesthetics: An Analysis of the Relations between Body, Space-Time and Society in SANART Association Publications through Assemblage Theory.” After gaining three years of professional experience in architectural practice following her undergraduate graduation, she joined Beykent University as a research assistant in 2016. Since 2020, she has been working as a lecturer at the same institution, where she is involved in architectural design education and academic research.

  • Nicel Saygın, Izmir Institute of Technology

    NICEL SAYGIN Full time faculty member at Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), Department of City and Regional Planning. She holds an undergraduate degree in City and Regional Planning from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir. Her graduate education took place in the United States. Following her Master’s studies at Clemson University and an Advanced Master's studies at University of Pennsylvania, she received her doctoral degree in Design and Planning from University of Colorado at Denver. Has been teaching city planning and urban design studios as well as theoretical courses in urban design at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Her latest work focuses on climate change adaptation, and nature based solutions. Being enthusiastic on water issues, she was in the research team of Izmir Sponge City Project and also involved with Water4All - Sustainable Water Management Doctoral Program at IZTECH. Currently is as a researcher in European CARDIMED and Re-VALUE Projects.

  • İpek Akpınar, Izmir Institute of Technology

    IPEK AKPINAR Full-time professor at IZTECH Department of Architecture, conducting architectural and urban design studios, lecturing graduate courses on the relations of architecture with the urban, political and cultural context. Following her bachelor and Master of Science studies at ITU Department of Architecture, she received her doctoral degree from UCL Bartlett. Her collaborated international research project based on the personal archives of Henri Prost at IFA Paris was funded by EGIDE. She is the author of Moonlight Monastery and 10th Year of the Sabancı Museum; co-edited Transformations of Public Space, Architecture and the visual arts in late Modern Istanbul 1950–80 and Architecture in 100th years of the Republic. She is currently on the advisory board of OCEAN Design Research Association and A/Z ITU Journal of Faculty of Architecture. She has coordinated European NEB project EHHUR at IZTECH, and member of research team at ASSETS and PED-ACT.

  • Elif Simge Fettahoğlu Özgen, Technical University of Munich

    ELİF SİMGE FETTAHOĞLU ÖZGEN is an architect, urban designer and researcher. She studied architecture at Yeditepe University (2007) and completed her MA in Architectural Design in 2009 at Istanbul Bilgi University, where she worked as a research assistant and lecturer until 2017, following her assistant curatorship at 'Istanbul 1910-2010 City, Built Environment and Architectural Culture Exhibition in 2010. As a part of the Research, Publication and Communication team in Tabanlıoğlu Architects, she has been involved in numerous international installations, exhibitions and publications. Since 2018, she has been a research associate at Technical University of Munich Professorship of Urban Design, where she is involved with research projects and teaching in Urban Design Research Studios. She is a photographer and videographer, and is interested in producing enticing visual narratives.
